When a person surrenders to the Lordship of Jesus and receives His eternal life, Jesus indwells that person by his Spirit and word. Receiving Christ is like Receiving a package. You have to understand what the content of that package is to enjoy it. As far as Jesus is concerned, healing is a part of the package of our new birth. The person who receives Christ receives healing in Him.
However, taking advantage of that healing power and making it work for you is an entirely different matter.
So many people seek healing from different diseases. Many are healed, but sad to say, there are many others who have given up because they have sought to be healed to no avail. Most times, there are certain hindrances or stumbling blocks that keep them from receiving healing. It is very important that you know what hinders people from receiving healing so that you can deal with it.
Unbelief
This one is indeed the major stumbling block. Unbelief makes the power of God ineffective. Wherever unbelief thrives, the power of God is limited. We see a vivid example of this in the new testament;
Matthew 13:58
And He did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
This is the Lord Jesus Himself being hindered from fully manifesting His power because he was dealing with an unbelieving people. It is the same problem that hinders many from receiving healing today.
There is also a great tendency for people to go on without knowing they suffer from unbelief. It is simply having convictions opposite to God’s testimony. Unbelief manifests in thoughts, words and actions contrary to the word of God on healing. One could be walking in unbelief and not even know it. The Bible tells us without faith, it is impossible to please God, and that we live by faith and not by sight. That simply means our lives ought to be directed and ruled by the unseen (that which is not visible with the physical eye). However, the things which are not visible are those things which are eternal (do not fade away) and your healing is one of them.
As you put your faith to work to receive healing from whatever sickness or disease you may be suffering from, it is important that you deal with whatever may be sponsoring doubts in your mind and heart.
Ignorance (Lack of accurate knowledge) on the subject of healing
Nothing sponsors unbelief like ignorance. It is difficult to believe what you are ignorant of. That is why God instructs us to study his word constantly and acquire the knowledge that puts us over the world. The more of God’s word you study and meditate on, the less likely you are to live in unbelief. There is something interesting we are told in …

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
God commended these Jews and named them nobler because of their attitude towards his word. Now let’s see what kind of results this attitude of searching the scriptures daily brought for them.
Acts 17:12
Therefore, many of them believed; also of honorable women who were Greeks, and of men not a few.
We see here a cause and effect. These guys got to believe in the word about salvation because of their diligence in searching the scriptures. They took out time to search the truth for themselves and in doing so, their unbelief was dealt away with. That is the power of knowledge. Unbelief is synonymous to doubt and doubt can only thrive where there is ignorance. As a matter of fact, doubt is the result of the absence of knowledge. Knowledge and unbelief are like light and darkness. When knowledge steps in, unbelief checks out. And what better way to introduce the light of knowledge than studying Gods word?
Psalms 119:130
the entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding to the simple.
The last hindrance to healing we are going to look at is SIN…
God is merciful and kind. He is a loving God, but he also despises sin. The bible says He is of purer eyes than to look upon iniquity (See Habakkuk 1:13). Many times, people struggle with sicknesses and do not get their healing because while they want to be healed, they desire to go on living in Sin. Let’s take someone seeking healing from HIV as an example. This person could have gotten the sickness because of indulgence in sexual sins. Now the person has a problem in his or her hands and wants God to take it away. Of course, God is willing and able to take it away, but He demands that you repent of the sin that got you into that situation in the first place. Not for Himself, but for your own sake. It would not do you any good if you are going to receive the healing you desire now and go on living the same way only to be infected again or worse still die and go on to hell. God wants our bodies well and strong so that we can enjoy life to the full but this aspect is not even half as important as the health of your soul. That should be your main concern.
If you are dealing with some sin or the other, let go of it and receive the healing power of God. On the other hand, if you have actually repented of a sinful lifestyle, don’t let the devil hold you bound by bringing guilt from your past. God does not hold your past against you and you should not bring it before Him either. You are loved eternally.

PRAYER FOR SALVATION
Lord God, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ your son. Your word declares, whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. I call on you to forgive my sins and I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son and that He died for my salvation. I confess Jesus is my Lord and Savior and I receive eternal life now into my spirit. Thank you, Lord, for saving me.
